The story of Liz the musician is born with her arrival in New York City's East Village, which she now calls home. She bizarrely found herself playing rhythm guitar in a dive bar in Alphabet City. Bizarre, because she was not a musician, but had been recruited into a weekly gig with an unorthodox string band for her innate sense of musical timing.

Long admired by New York’s songwriting elite, Liz Tormes has a new album, Limelight, that should help the rest of the world get to know what the Lower East Side has known for years. Intense, brooding, sultry and frequently wrathful, the power in Tormes’ casually wary voice resides in ellipses, the spaces between notes, the unsaid and conspicuous.
